The 7 Wedding Tasks You Don't Need to Do Right Away

You just got engaged!? CONGRATS! It’s easy to get distracted in wedding planning. Don’t worry, you don’t need to do it all at once. Read below for 7 tasks that you don’t need to do right away. (These come later in the wedding planning process).

  1. Picking your first dance songs

This can be tweaked along the way. (especially if you have a DJ). If you have just begun planning, focus on the bigger things to plan first.

  2. Deciding When to ask your bridesmaids

Usually bridesmaids are willing to just jump in. I wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about this right after the proposal. Take some time on other things first.

  3. Choosing Bridesmaid’s outfits

Similar to asking your bridesmaids, you don’t need to pick their outfits until after you’ve decided the color scheme!

  4. Choosing smaller décor items

These things evolve throughout the planning process as you decide your wedding colors and style. Don’t jump to choosing these items right away.

  5. Buying your wedding dress

If you want to run out and buy it the week after you get engaged, be my guest! But this is something you can take time to think about. You’ll probably want this decided when you’re a few months out from your wedding, so you can have to decide and also soon enough to get it hemmed or adjusted to fit you.

  6. The Legal Logistics

There are legal things that go into weddings (like changing your name, etc). But I wouldn’t think to much about logistics right after you get engaged. Those things will come. Focus on more important things (Like finding a venue and date!)

  7. Planning seating chart

I wouldn’t plan a seating chart until you know how many people you want at your wedding. Here’s a link to help you organize and get a rough estimate of your guest list: https://www.theknot.com/gs/guest-list
